2017 Cataract Surgery Audit Results
In 2017 the Northern Eye Centre performed 223 cataract surgeries. All surgeries were performed by Dr Saf Bassili.
For the purposes of the audit, 41 patients were excluded due to various pre-operative pathologies ranging from Age-Related Macular Degeneration (8 patients) through to Diabetic Macular Edema (13 patients).
Of the remaining 182 patients:
148 patients received monofocal lens inplants (IOLs) with 62.6% receiving a toric monofocal lens and 37.4% of patients receiving a non-toric monofocal lens implant.
and 34 patients received a multifocal lens inplant (including both toric and non-toric lenses).

Including all cases (monofocal, toric and multifocal IOLs) the overall refractive outcomes were as follows:
77.9% of patients within ±0.25 SE
94.7% of patients within ±0.50 SE
100% of patients within ±0.75 SE
100% of patients within ±1.00 SE

18.2% of patients recorded visual acuity of 6/4.8 or better

100% of patients recorded visual acuity of 6/15 or better
